Today we went are going to Orleansville and it is most likely that many of the teachers will be on a strike. We go to the school and gather in the teachers lounge. The classes that need teachers are 1st grade, 4th, 5th and 6th. Marita and I pair up and take on 1st grade. We get shown to our classroom by the man who is replacing the principal for the day. The Principal is also on strike. We go in and I say hello. The kids are quietly sitting at their desk and they say nothing back. Them Marita walks in and I begin talking to some of the kids and realize they do not understand me. Marita begins talking Afrikaans to them and they respond. “Oh no” I think, this is going to be tough.
Then the teacher walks in and the man who replaced the Principal walks in and asks if we can join two classes. Of course we say yes and kids start coming in and I feel like it doesn’t stop for a long time. Lu Lu another dream team member comes in and it was his class that is joining us. They come with desks and chairs into our room.
Finally the class is so filled that in order to get from one section to another we have to leap over desks and squeeze against the wall to get through. The kids are not quiet anymore and many are talking and being rowdy. There are now fifty-one 1st graders in the class, many around 6 or 7 years old. For the first activity we ask them to write their names on construction paper.
We went outside after awhile so the kids could play a game outside, we played a game similar to duck duck goose and they all new the lyrics to this song they sing. It was cute. I brought out my camera and they would get so close to it because they wanted to be in the photograph.
This was the highlight of the day… We didn’t know what to do with so many students so we decided to have a talent show… these three girls came up and started to sing Justin Bieber. I don’t even know how they learned that song.

After school was over we went to the Coffee Shop which some money spent here goes to Monte Christo Ministries. Lots of people come eat here, there is a seating area outside. I had a Tramazini which is basically a sandwhich with different bread and salad and chips included. Chips at this restaurant are actually fries but is called chips.
