Day 11 – Change of Plans

Revelations 3:14-17 – 14 “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation.15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.

Today we are going back to the Lungabuya School to listen to their dreams and hopefully get the students to open up. Our team gets dropped off but as we go to the center play area outside, we see everyone gathered in a corner and all the teachers outside. The teachers that are still near where we are tell us that they are not going to have school today because the teachers may go on strike.

The principal is saying something and all the students are huddled in front of the Principal. Eventually they split up and students begin to go home.

We are all bummed but we start to walk towards the students and as we do some of the kids decide to hang out. So we talk to them and ask them questions. We came wanting to teach them a song and had it written down on construction paper. We have the kids sing along. Victoria leads the song with her beautiful voice. Eventually we go to the larger area and play games and end the day early. Our ride comes to pick us up and we go home.

We went back to Miqlat and hung out, taking pictures and talking some more.

Later in the afternoon, we headed to Bowy House to play with the kids. Bowy house is a place where kids with HIV/Aids can be cared for. “These children, infected with or seriously affected by HIV/AIDS and/or other serious illnesses, come from needy, poverty-stricken families. Bowy House reached the milestone of having cared for over 102 children in its history of just over ten years.” When we went there, we saw probably around 10 babies or so and only 1 working adult if I remember correctly. So we did what most girls do our age, play with babies!
