Inversion Workshop

inversion workshop

Earlier this month I led a very freestyle inversion workshop where we explored four different type of inversions and variations to each practitioners level.

The asana room was filled with yogi’s and we warmed up and to each their own began our inversion journey. I knew pretty much every student in the room except for one person. It made it easier for me to know where to take the inversions for each person with tons of options.

I’ll be holding the workshop again next year and you can see all the other workshops I’m leading by checking out my schedule.

I’m also currently working with my friend to help her get over her fear of inversions, going upside down. I love seeing people conquer and move past their fears of anything.

If you are working on your inversion practice here are some of my notes from the workshop”

What is an inversion: A pose where the belly is higher than the heart.

What are the benefits:

  • Improves posture
  • Helps increase blood circulation/ helps to purify blood
  • Stronger core
  • Exhilarating
  • Reverses all the sitting (lower back scrunching)
  • Helps to stimulate the nervous system

What’s important:

  • Hand placement (if at all)
  • Apply mula bandha
  • Drishti (focus point or gaze)
  • Feet (the ball of the feet/spreading toes or pressing into heels)
  • Breathing – making sure to breathe!

It is suggested that you do not practice yoga while pregnant or menstruating and obviously if you have a neck or back injury maybe a restorative inversion pose/practice is best. There are modifications as well.
