Is that the “gym rat” version of someone who is always doing yoga?
I almost joined a gym again. Am I insane? It is the end of January so there are probably a ton of people signing up. The first three months will be packed at the gym! Yeah, NO THANKS!
Instead, I realized I should probably do some additional weight training. I do yoga every day, unless if I’m on a travel day or just spending time with people and being present. I make it up by taking lots of steps. I came up with a new plan in lieu of the gym.
You see, the whole reason for the gym was because of the machines. It takes the guess work out of knowing what to do! I have a gym here at my apartment so I decided to just create my own workouts. I don’t care too much about leg day because I’m getting that work out with all the lunges and warriors in yoga. I want more upper body, back, and abs.
As usual, I decided to be my own experiment. I have two (of many) really good resource books that could make this really easy. One for yoga poses and one for gym related fitness moves. I don’t necessarily need the yoga book to practice but I feel like I am doing the same poses over and over on my Instagram so I decided to switch it up a bit.

You can purchase the books on Amazon here:
Encyclopedia of Exercise Anatomy by Hollis Lance Liebman
2100 Asanas The Complete Yoga Poses by Daniel Lacerda
The Encyclopedia of Exercise is a very good resource for those are already active gym goers to new noobs trying to get some gains.

I’ve also decided to write more. I think it is an outlet for me. I already write quite a bit but tend to stay in a positive mind set when I write regularly. It also keeps me accountable to my fitness goals, my research goals and a few other goals I can’t think of at the moment (it’s Christmas today, and I just got back from a long day of driving from Portland, OR). I know what writing about 350-400 words is like and about how long it takes so I’m going to start with that as my daily goals. I don’t want to just blab so I’m hoping to bring useful information or helpful details to share with others. I’m constantly trying to become the best version of myself and this will be my portal of sharing those lessons learned. Hope, you’ll come for the ride.
