Painting pink & blue

We are going to an Autistic School that currently has only four students. The school is small but definitely has potential and they are expecting more students soon. Danielle’s career is working with Autistic children as a speech pathologist (I think?? Sorry Danielle if I’m wrong) so she has a connection with this type of activity. Our group has volunteered to some how assist the school and they asked us to paint two rooms. So those who financially volunteered, this is one way the finances were contributed during the trip.

One room is the blue room and the other is orange. We go there as a group and paint both rooms. The supplies were minimal and we used pieces of old clothes ripped up as rags to wash the walls. Today was my sickest day and my chest was in a lot of pain so the smell of the paint and physically working did not help. Everyone worked really hard to pay attention to the small details of painting the room and the furniture. It was fun working as a team to accomplish this task. Painting helped bring us closer together as we had to work together in taping, painting, getting supplies etc…

Tyler enjoyed playing with the kids and today we had McDonalds for lunch. It was similar and the fries were good. yummm~

For dinner we went to Moyo. A restaurant that is about 45 minutes away in Stellenbosch. It is an all you can eat restaurant that has authentic African food made in all sorts of ways. They even had Springbok which is the South Africa rugby mascot, similar to a deer.

We also had our faces painted which was fun.

Luba, Blom and Ameaka joined in on dinner and we all had a wonderful time. Luba had me try antelope which I was very scared to eat but it was not bad. I really enjoyed the chicken, ox tail meat and their hot sauce was delicious. I was full but thinking about it makes me hungry.

The drive home was quiet, everyone slept. I was sick so I really didn’t mingle and wasn’t very active.
